Thank you for using SmartClip. Your privacy and data security are our top priorities. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and how you can control it. Please read it carefully.
Summary of Data Handling
- To make the extension work: We send the content you choose to save directly to your configured services (Notion, Obsidian, Joplin, etc.). We never store this content on our servers.
- To improve the extension: We collect anonymous data about which pages you save and how you use the extension features.
- You have full control: You can disable all analytics collection in the extension's settings at any time, and you can revoke access to any connected service.
1. Data We Collect and Why
We handle two distinct categories of data for two different purposes:
A) Data for Core Functionality (Sending Content to Your Services)
This data is essential for the extension to perform its main functions, and it is only handled when you actively choose to save or interact with content.
What is handled:
- User Content: The URL, title, selected text, highlighted passages, images, and other content from web pages you choose to save
- Service Authentication Tokens: API keys and authentication tokens for services you configure (Notion, Obsidian, Joplin, Flomo, Siyuan, etc.)
- Page Metadata: Page title, URL, author, publish date, and other structural information extracted from web pages
- User Preferences: Your configuration settings for how content should be saved (formatting, tags, properties, etc.)
How it's handled:
- Service Tokens are stored securely on your local device only. They are never sent to our servers.
- User Content is sent directly from your browser to your configured services' APIs. We do not store or process this content on our servers.
